A novel file search tool demonstrates that direct disk I/O can outperform kernel-based file system operations by up to 2.8x on large datasets, revealing potential inefficiencies in traditional OS-level file access patterns. While this proof-of-concept has limited practical application due to security constraints and operational overhead, it highlights an important architectural consideration for IT organizations evaluating file system performance and storage optimization strategies. For enterprises managing massive file repositories, this research suggests that alternative indexing and search approaches may warrant architectural review to improve operational efficiency.
