SAP bets $1.16B on 18-month-old German AI lab and says yes to NemoClaw
SAP is investing $1.16B over four years into German AI startup Prior Labs to build enterprise AI capabilities focused on structured data and tabular foundation models—a strategic move to compete in agentic AI while leveraging its core strength in database-driven business processes. The acquisition also signals SAP's intent to control its AI ecosystem through selective API access, authorizing only SAP-endorsed agents like its own Joule Agents and Nvidia's NemoClaw while blocking competitors like OpenClaw. This represents both a defensive play against AI disruption of its legacy software business and an offensive bet that enterprise AI success depends on purpose-built models for structured data rather than general-purpose language models.

SAP plans to buy German AI startup Prior Labs and invest heavily in it. It is also prohibiting customers' agents use to a select few like Nvidia's NemoClaw.
