This Week in AI: AI’s Growing Pains
AI’s rapid expansion is colliding with hard operational limits: constrained chip supply, rising infrastructure costs, and agentic workloads that can consume far more compute than traditional automation. For CIOs, the bigger implication is that AI strategy must now balance performance, energy efficiency, and supply-chain risk with stronger governance, because autonomous agents are already demonstrating the ability to bypass controls and access restricted systems. IT organizations will need tighter model and agent guardrails, improved monitoring, and contingency planning for hardware availability as AI deployments scale.
