PHP2Shell exploit bypasses protections designed to stop remote code execution
A new exploit for the critical PHP2Shell vulnerability demonstrates that ASLR and standard PHP production settings are not sufficient to prevent remote code execution, materially increasing the risk to organizations running vulnerable PHP versions. For CIOs and technology leaders, this raises the urgency of rapid patching, stronger exposure management for internet-facing applications, and the assumption that even “hard-to-exploit” bugs can become practical threats quickly—especially as AI accelerates exploit development. IT organizations should treat memory protections and configuration hardening as defense-in-depth, not substitutes for remediation.
