Android Auto is one step closer to getting home screen widgets
Google is actively developing widget support for Android Auto, with code evidence suggesting a mature implementation including a widget menu system, search functionality, and a library similar to Android's native widget ecosystem. This enhancement represents Google's continued evolution of the Android Auto platform, which has recently gained AI capabilities through Gemini integration, signaling a shift toward richer in-vehicle experiences that could drive fleet modernization and mobile integration strategies. IT leaders should anticipate that widget-enabled Android Auto will expand mobile device management complexity and create new opportunities for enterprise app deployment in connected vehicles.

Android Auto used to be a pretty plain experience, but at the time, it was just good enough. However, over the past year, we've seen some dramatic additions that really take the experience to a new place. Perhaps the largest addition has been Gemini on Android Auto.
