The Hetzner Cloud network stack – history and technical overview

Hetzner’s cloud networking strategy shows why modern infrastructure teams are pushing more network intelligence to the host layer: it simplifies the physical fabric, contains failure domains, and gives the provider faster paths to launch features like private networking and stateful firewalls. For CIOs and technology leaders, the strategic takeaway is that owning the control plane and data-plane building blocks can improve agility, security, and operational consistency—but it also increases the need for in-house networking expertise, automation, and careful host-level lifecycle management across the fleet.
