Microsoft opens preorders for the Surface Laptop Ultra from $2,599, shipping October 16; it has a breakaway port like Apple's MagSafe, but on a standard USB-C (Zac Bowden/Windows Central)

Microsoft’s Surface Laptop Ultra is now available for preorder at a premium starting price of $2,599, signaling a high-end positioning that will likely appeal more to executive, creative, and specialized enterprise users than to broad corporate deployment. For CIOs, the strategic takeaway is less about mass replacement and more about evaluating whether features like the breakaway USB-C port could reduce accidental damage, improve user experience, and lower support costs in targeted laptop fleets.
