The AI watermark is not evidence #112

Anthropic’s AI watermark appears to indicate whether a model likely generated or modified a text, but it does not provide the kind of reliable evidence organizations need for governance, compliance, or trust decisions. For CIOs and technology leaders, the business implication is that watermarking alone should not be treated as proof of authorship, integrity, or policy adherence; IT organizations will need broader controls such as provenance tracking, audit logs, human review, and data governance to manage AI risk effectively. Strategically, this reinforces that AI assurance must be built as a layered capability rather than assumed from a single technical signal.
