SpaceXAI completes its Cursor acquisition following Grok Bot and Grok 4.6 release
SpaceX has completed its acquisition of Cursor, an AI coding tool competitor to Claude Code and OpenAI's Codex, consolidating a major player in enterprise AI development infrastructure. The acquisition grants Cursor access to SpaceX's Colossus supercomputer infrastructure with millions of H100-equivalent GPUs, enabling rapid advancement of agentic coding models that previously faced computational bottlenecks. This consolidation signals intensifying competition in the AI-assisted development space and creates a formidable alternative to Anthropic and OpenAI that IT organizations must evaluate for coding and knowledge work automation.
When SpaceX isn’t landing rockets, it’s apparently landing AI company deals. In February, the firm behind Starlink absorbed xAI, which includes Twitter-turned-X. In April, SpaceX inked a deal with Cursor, a competitor to Claude Code and OpenAI’s Codex. As of August 14, the purchase has been completed. SpaceXAI, as it’s now called, also recently released Grok Bot and Grok 4.6 models with the help of Cursor.
